NABI Revisited

October 24, 2010

My paranoid limit buy posted here in March went through, and I was getting ready to set a short-term limit sell, when I ran across an article on listing it as a potential doubler. Hmmm. They’ve steered me in both directions, but I’m going to bet with them today… for now.

Will the Phoenix Rise From the Summer Ashes?

September 18, 2010

It was a summer of paranoia, so I’m expecting Apollo Group (APOL) to beat analysts expectations and take a brief jump up after the earnings announcement in October.  But I also don’t see this as a good long-term hold if unemployment has not dropped, because then the government finance incentives will trickle away the stock will go back down. Just my guess, place your bets the way you see fit. I’m going to sell on October 13 if the jump I predict occurs.

Raytheon or Lockheed?

September 12, 2010

I was about one click from setting a limit buy on Lockheed when I thought to check the headlines first. There I ran across a Motley Fool article that got me more interested in Raytheon.

Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. (MLNX)

July 25, 2010

I found MLNX in my regular review of the Price % Losers on Yahoo! Finance.  The strategy is to find something at the bottom of a short roller coaster ride, though once in awhile I find a solid stock that I might keep there. This one sits in the middle.

Buy Who You Pay

July 25, 2010

One person taught me to buy stock in the companies you are already sending money to. This way you should get some back. I didn’t like the price of National Grid (NGG) when I was a customer, but a Motley Fool article I ran across had me given them a new look from afar and I’m in.  Now let’s see how it works out.

EI DuPont de Nemours & Co. (DD)

July 7, 2010

I made money with Dupont in the last big dip, and looking to get in on the next dip.  Setting an alert for $30.00.

Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP (KMP)

July 7, 2010

Came up today in an InvestorPlace article.  The numbers on Yahoo! Finance look good, so I’m in when it hits $62 on a pull back.

Advance America Retreating

June 6, 2010

I started watching AEA last November as a play on the decreasing borrowing power of the average debt consumer. The Foolish CAPs still like it, and Yahoo! Finance still has them predicted for a year end value over the $6 mark. But insiders have been selling down this year. I still like the business model and most of the numbers, though the debt and the insider sells worry me. What do you think? Comments welcome!

GTXI: Buy Low, Sell Higher

June 3, 2010

On 5/26/2010 GTXI dropped from 3.02 to 1.90. I picked it up at 2.01 and sold it today (6/3) for 2.50.  Now if I had the intestinal fortitude to do that with lots of shares, it would have been a very good week. OTOH, I lost enough in other stocks where it would have been only an OK week. Lesson learned is that sometimes the gut is right.

Guangshen Railway Co. Ltd. (GSH)

Long story short for GSH: One Wildly Mispriced Stock You’ve Never Heard Of
